Tired of being on the sidelines? Beginning Monday, September 13, all those people who hate Monday night football, join us on Monday evenings in September and October for a special party. We will be celebrating the fact that there are more important things to do on Monday evenings than sit in front of a TV. How does enjoying food and drink specials with your friends sound? We are also inviting our Hastings downtown business friends to join us and share their expertise with you. Thornapple Jazz Orchestra will entertain you from 7pm to 9pm on September 13. Previously Pink will bring their fashions for a special fashion show, 7pm, September 20. Our new neighbors across the street, Blue Bird on the Moon and Ambiance (Floral) are planning to do something special, too, date to be determined. We will continue to add more interesting guests, for your enjoyment, to our parties. So, check back.

Get off the sidelines and make your own touchdown at The County Seat Lounge, Monday evenings.

Our Wine Menu has seven Michigan wines. . .

We Have A New Wine Menu!

The County Seat Lounge is proud to introduce seven new wines on our Summer Wine Menu that are from Fenn Valley Vineyards in Michigan. Offering these Michigan wines compliment our effort to “buy local” while promoting our local and state economy. The quality of today’s Michigan wines is impressive, and wine makers continue to make great strides in quality, making world-class wine here.

About the Fenn Valley Vineyard

Growing Award Winning Wines Since 1973

Fenn Valley is a small family owned vineyard and winery that was born out of a desire to grow premium wine grapes and make world class wines. The vineyard site, located along the shores of Lake Michigan, was chosen because the unique Great Lakes climate and deep sandy soils would be an ideal setting for growing grapes and creating wines having a stature and character unparalleled anywhere else.

Fenn Valley believes that the best wines are “made in the vineyard”. Their vineyards are planted to traditional Euorpean wine varieties that were carefully selected for their ability to thrive in our cool northern climate. During the winter months, each of their 50,000 vines is hand pruned to set the shape and size of the vine, and to limit the number of bunches that the vine will be required to ripen during the next growing season. Throughout the summer months, the growing canes are positioned to maximize sun exposure, excess grape clusters are removed to assure complete and even ripening, and the leaves covering the grape bunches are pulled off to expose the ripening fruit to the sun.

The sandy glacial soils and the long, cool Lake Michigan growing season results in wines having a fresh fruit character and a lively crispness. These light wines, with a crisp, fruit-forward character, are a perfect companion for fine foods and a healthy life style.

Come on in and enjoy a glass or bottle of Michigan wine!

You can even take home your leftover bottle of wine.

Whites

Pinot Grigio 2009, Fenn Valley (Michigan) 8.75 glass/19.50 bottle

A medium-bodied, flavorful wine with a crisp and clean apple and pear character.

Riesling 2008, Fenn Valley (Michigan) 8.75 glass/19.50 bottle

This vintage of Riesling shows a flowery fruit character and a refreshing crispness that is balanced with a touch of natural sweetness.

Lakeshore Demi-Sec, Fenn Valley (Michigan) 5.00 glass/12.00 bottle

The most popular of Fenn Valley–one taste and you will know why. A fresh semi-dry “German style” white wine bursting with floral and apple fruit character that is sure to delight the senses.

42 Icewine, Fenn Valley (Michigan) 375ml 30.00 half bottle

This wine is made from Vidal Blanc grapes left to freeze in the vineyard. While the finished wine is actually sweeter than the grape juice of a normal harvest, the sweetness is matched to a mouthful of fruit flavors that just won’t quit. Very simply, this wine is dessert in a glass! Best in show Dessert Wine at the Michigan Wine & Spirits Competition.

Asti Spumante, Tosti 8.00 glass/19.50 bottle

Reds

Lakeshore Sweet Red, Fenn Valley (Michigan) 5.00 glass/12.00 bottle

A red wine for white wine drinkers. Soft and easy to drink, it is a fruit forward red wine.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Sterling Vintners Collection 35.00 bottle

Capriccio, Fenn Valley (Michigan) 8.75 glass/19.50 bottle

Big, soft red wine shows the right balance between fruitiness and dryness, a big jammy berry fruit flavor with a subtle backbone of tannin.

Meritage 2008, Fenn Valley (Michigan) 13.00 glass/28.00 bottle

A blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot as expected, no one variety stands out, they all work together to create a harmonious blend of flavors that compliment each other.

House Glass of Wine: White, Blush, Red 4.75

The County Seat Lounge is proud to host the Thornapple Jazz Orchestra on the following Monday evenings, from 7:30 to 9pm: September 13, October 11, November 8, December 13

Thornapple Jazz Orchestra

Formerly Known as Les Jazz

Les Jazz Big Band was established in 1987, by Joe LaJoye, to provide an opportunity for adult instrumentalists, in and around Hastings, to play big band jazz. Over the years the group has performed for various community events and has come to be known as a first call ensemble for organizations doing charity functions.

The ensemble recently underwent a name change to reflect the local of their membership and following. The name is now the Thornapple Jazz Orchestra.

The band draws from the libraries of many of the great big bands such as Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw and many more. The adults who play in the band come from many occupations; but, share a common love for the music. Additionally, the band includes a generous portion of waltz and Latin music to round out the repertoire to meet the tastes of all dancers and listeners.

Past performances include numerous appearances at Hastings Summerfest, Red Cross Charity Ball, CMS Cabaret, HHS Choral Jazz Weekend, HHS Jazz Concerts, Thornapple Arts Council Art Auction and, of course, appearances every year at the Thornapple Jazz Festival.

Members include:

Joan Schroeder, Judy Martin, Jerry Mueller, Jeff Kacszmarsyk, Nick Biesbrock, Craig Holley, and Carol Svihl on Saxophone

Steve Hoke, Lynn McConnell, Jeff Buehl, Don Myers, Craig Schroeder, and Scott Evans on Trombone

Bob Evans, Mike Smith, Doug Acker, Troy Macqueen, Rich Moore on Trumpet

Forrest Evans, Piano

Steve Evans and Don Cheeseman on Bass

Tom Alderson on Drums
